About

Hello and thanks for dropping by!

ga3rd (pronounced “gathered”) is Anthony Inciong, this is where the words he writes and the work he makes reside.

Anthony Inciong is Associate Professor of Visual Communication Design at Montclair State University, College of the Arts, Department of Art and Design where he has taught foundational courses in typography and graphic design since 2007. He earned his Master of Graphic Design (MGD) from North Carolina State University, College of Design and his BFA from Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Arts, via Rutgers University-Newark.

Inciong previously taught at Monmouth University and William Paterson University. Prior to academia, he worked in a variety of settings – from small multidisciplinary studios in New York City, to a large corporate design office, to television (CBS Late Show with David Letterman). As a professor, Inciong is especially interested in design and research as conduits for learning, creativity, and collaboration. Chief among his objectives at Montclair State University is to prepare students for wide-ranging design practice, at the core of which is a high regard for concepts, creative processes, and integrative approaches to research.

His writings about typography, graphic design, and design education were published by Émigré (a quarterly magazine made famous for its critical writings, groundbreaking digital layouts, and fonts); AIGA the professional association for design and, among others, Open Manifesto. In early 2021, Inciong alongside visual communication design alumni developed and designed feature pages for Denmark based collagist, Kareem Rizk. Their layouts for Rizk were published in Plastikcomb Magazine #2. To this day, Inciong is a contributing writer and designer for the magazine, which is devoted to the art and craft of collage.
